Gotta Get ‘Em Games: Three New Video Games To Be Excited About

NCAA Football 13 is as good as it gets when it comes to sports games. NCAA Football 13 is as good as it gets when it comes to sports games.

As always, the latest issue of Rosebud Magazine (featuring hydro hottie Deonna Marie on the cover) showcases some of the best new video games out there. We know a ton of growers who like to relax at the end of the day with some good old fashioned escapism, and gaming can deliver the desired effect big time. With that in mind, here are some recent games that we're stoked on right now, courtesy of Rosebud Magazine's resident gaming expert, Paul Semel.

Developer: Vigil Games (Darksiders)
Publisher: THQ
Systems: Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC

Why We Want It NOW! Because like the original, this third-person action-adventure game mixes the adventure of Zelda with the action of God of War. Set during the same End of Days as the original Darksiders, this episode lets you control another of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse—Death. Which is why, along with such new weapons as Wolverine-like claws, you also have very different magic attacks, including the ability conjure mini-armies of hungry crows and angry zombies.
Developer: United Front Games (ModNation Racers)
Publisher: Square Enix
Systems: Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC

Why We Want It NOW! Because this takes the normally shallow driving, brawling and shooting of Grand Theft Auto and gives it the depth of dedicated driving, brawling and shooting games. Originally intended to be the third True Crime installment, this renamed open-world crime drama actually plays like a mix of Midnight Club when you’re racing, Tekken when you’re fighting, Uncharted when you’re shooting, and Need For Speed: Most Wanted when you’re being chased or doing the chasing.

Developers: EA Tiburon (Madden NFL 12)
Publisher: EA Sports
Systems: Xbox 360, PlayStation 3

Why We Want It NOW! Because we’re not good enough athletes to play two-hand touch with fourth-graders. Among the improvements to these virtual pigskin contests are new physics-driven animations that make the virtual pros move more like their real-life counterparts (Madden) and an improved Dynasty Mode that lets you better scout prospective players (NCAA). There’s also improved passing that lets you aim better, as well as the usual updates to the rosters and stats.

Playing On The Side: Fun Gaming Stuff to Do When You’re Not Gaming

With Borderlands 2 not coming out until Sept. 18 (a year and a half since the original’s last expansion pack) we’re going through a bit of withdrawal. But we’ll probably be OK, thanks to the new Borderlands action figures from NECA. Designed to have the same cel-shaded look as the game, Psycho Bandit ($17 www.necaonline.com) comes with his signature melee weapon and is fully articulated, while our old pal CL4P-TP has poseable arms perfect for striking a Saturday Night Fever-esque stance, plus a retractable drawer and antenna, and a display base so you’re not constantly searching your apartment for a repair kit.

Building on the GTA legacy is Sleeping Dogs. Tons of fun, no doubt.
