Most Anticipated Video Game Releases of 2011

Dragon Age Origins Dragon Age Origins

2010 was a great year for gamers, don‘t get me wrong. A few games expected to be released in time for Christmas ended up being delayed… but it‘s all cool. 2011 is just around the corner, so hang onto those gift cards!

Attention gamers! 2011 is nearly here, which means that finally you’ll be able to get your hands on all those games you’ve been anxiously awaiting. So, what’s on the roster? Here’s a sampling due to release in February:

Deus Ex: Human Revolution (PC, PS3, and Xbox 360)

Due for release in February is Deus Ex: Human Revolution. The storyline takes place 25 years before Deus Ex (prior to nanotech augmentations), so players have access to mechanical augmentations and four types including combat and stealth - as well as regenerative health for the first time in the series. The main character is Adam Jensen, a security guard at an augmentation company who is attacked, then chooses augmentation in order to survive. Locations include Shanghai and Detroit

Portal 2 (PS3, Xbox 360, PC, and Mac)

The Orange Box's surprise hit was such a spectacular success that Portal 2 was pushed through for release fairly quickly. The story line takes place hundreds of years after the original, with Chell (who has been in stasis) awakened by one of GLaDOS' personality cores. Chell works through puzzles and platforming challenges to rebuild the Aperture Science facility. A highly anticipated co-op mode will allow players to work together to solve puzzles in an alternate plotline as GLaDOS attempts to turn them against each other. Weapons and tools include the familiar portal gunas well as a gel that can increase speed and a tractor beam.

Killzone 3 (PS3 exclusive, Move compatible, 3D support)

This FPS starts immediately after the events of Killzone 2, with similar gameplay but some changes. The Helghast Empire is fractured and fighting internally, and the game plays out in fully destructible environments including space, the Arctic, and jungle territory. Players will have jetpacks similar to those from Killzone Liberation, but they have new rules for usage; and the close combat has been recalculated to allow players to perform both melee attacks and combos.

Bulletstorm (PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.)

Bulletstorm is a brand new game set in a futuristic world, where a confederation is protected by mercenaries called Dead Echo who betray their commander and are exiled. Grayson, a drunken space pirate, is stranded with another exile and must attempt to try to escape a planet populated by mutants and flesh eaters. Huge weapons make the game even more fun and rewards are handed out to players who create the most chaos - these rewards (known as Skillshots) allow the player to unlock weapons and upgrades.

Upcoming in March 2011

Dragon Age 2 (for PC, Xbox 360, and PS3) is expected to be released in March 2011. The popular RPG allows players to import saved data from Origins and Awakening and the choices made affect the new game. Hawke is the central character and his race cannot be changed.

Crysis 2 (for PC, Xbox 360, and PS3) is also an anticipated March release; New York City has been evacuated due to alien infestation 3 years after the original Crysis. Redesigned aliens and a fully destructible cityscape environment add to the fun, and players will be able to customize weapons and other abilities as well as take advantage of nano suit upgrades based on individual combat style.

Dead Space 2 was betaed in September 2010, and a demo was released on December 21st.  The exact launch date for 2011 is unknown, but it is expected to be in the first quarter. Engineer Isaac Clarke returns, awakening from a coma on a massive space city known as "The Sprawl" to battle dementia, the government, and memories of his dead girlfriend. Features a stunning arsenal of tools to dismember Necromorphs.
