Ready for Rolex, Tag Heuer, Breitling, Patek Phillipe Luxury Watches?

I’m a hydroponics gardener, not a blingmaster, so when I tell you I’m interested in Rolex, Patek Phillipe, Breitling, Tag Heuer and other luxury watches, it isn’t because I want to bling out like Lil Jon, Ludcaris, 50 Cent or Jay Z. Nor do I want a counterfeit or replica watch.

I want a good-looking authentic Rolex or other investment watch that gives me absolutely perfect time and date no matter where I go, no matter what I do.

Because in my job as hydroponics urban garden adventurer, I often find myself swimming in rough seas, at the bottom of a river, underground, trekking through leech-infested swamps, or clawing through 10,000 watts of ungrounded electrical wiring trying to find where a grower’s urban garden spider mite tunnel is hidden.

I’ve bought watches that cost $50, then $150, then $600, then $1100. When I had purchased four watches and noticed they didn’t keep time, fell apart, batteries lasted a couple of years max, warranties weren’t worth the paper they were printed on, I started to investigate the watch industry.

My first research was contacting all Internet watch people who look legit and ask them a bunch of questions. It was then I realized that many watch sellers are in the territory where free market capitalism crosses the line into Ripoffville.

I got soooo frustrated trying to get a straight answer about whether their alleged Rolex, Patek Phillipe, Tag Heuer, Breitling and other watches were authentic- not counterfeits or replicas.

So I gave up on Internet watch shopping and visited several retail watch stores in person, only to, again encounter a blizzard of bullshit. Heavy-handed sales tactics, bait and switches, and in one case, an outright fake watch…all standard operating procedures.

Be careful not to be victimized by the huge, sophisticated market in counterfeit/replica luxury watches - some of them can fool even authorized manufacturer’s watch dealers and repairpersons.

I contacted Rolex and they told me only to buy from authorized Rolex dealers. The Rolex rep turned me on to the fact that for all the top watch brands (such as Patek Philippe, Breitling, Tag Heuer, Vacheron Constantin, Rolex), it’s best if you contact the manufacturer directly to find who’s authorized to sell their watches.

Otherwise, you can easily get ripped off and you have no easy recourse. If you do your homework and buy from a reputable dealer, you get a bulletproof, beautiful, precision, practically lifetime guaranteed, eye-catching timepiece.

But here’s the kicker…even if it’s a mid-range Tag, you’ll be spending at least $2300, especially if you want an attractive watch that stands up to scuba diving, pouring rain and the test of time.

Me - I’m saving up for a Patek Phillipe Sky Moon Tourbillon. It sells for only $1.3 million. I will be saving for a very long time!

Oh, so this is why Patek Phillipe costs a lot!

The bottom line is that watch shopping is a tricky enterprise, and price point is the determining factor…

Friends, you can buy a decent Seiko-category watch that’s worth five dollars when it wears out in a few years, or you can spend $3000 or more for a Rolex, Tag Heuer, Breitling, Patek Phillipe or similarly high-value, well-made watch that lasts a lifetime, holds or appreciates in value, and your grandkids will be proudly wearing it many years from now. That’s how it is in the watch market.
